About
The technology used to capture and manipulate photographic images has developed with breathtaking speed over the last few years. The manufacture of affordable compact and SLR cameras has encouraged many like me to aim for excellence, despite a limited knowledge of the science and art that is photography. And this has been my pursuit since 2004.
Taking good landscape images is quite easy where I live in the Wye Valley - it's an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Toting a Powershot G2, I enjoyed lots of scenic riverside walks but, needing more than bridges, castles and sunrises, I turned the lens on the seagulls at Tintern. However, they all looked much the same and I soon ran out of the bread that encourages them to fly.

So, disappointed but intrigued by the skill of those who succeed at this, I went to a birds of prey centre. What I saw there changed everything. Like the other visitors, I was enraptured by the raptors! Finding that their huge size made them acceptable flying targets, I made it an ambition to capture the fast action. Soon, everything was looking up!! Of course, for quick response I needed a digital SLR and obtaining one was the next step in this inexorable slide to a new passion.
The Director of the International Centre for Birds of Prey, Jemima Parry-Jones MBE, is one of life's movers and shakers. She has built one of the most successful raptor centres in the world. She delivers an expert educational programme in the biology of these magnificent creatures with such enthusiasm and humour that my interest in the birds quickly extended beyond what I could see through the viewfinder. I joined as a volunteer and learned more about their habits, development, training and care, all the while, trying to photograph them.
I have taken thousands of raptor images at the ICBP and the passion for photography has progressed to digital imaging techniques and webdesign - the results of which are represented by this website. ENJOY!
